Patricia Wallis
Patricia Wallis – (b. Chicago, Illinois) resides in Reno Nevada. She lived in Marin County, California between 1979 and June 2005. Known as a plein air painter, Patricia has recently been working on a series of overviews of the land. The organic shapes and the strong use of paint make these images compelling-inviting the viewer to study the familiar landforms from an extraordinary perspective.
Pat graduated from Ray College of Design in Chicago, attended College of Marin and UC Santa Cruz. Upon graduation from Ray College of Design she accepted a position at the institution teaching perspective. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. In 1993 she received the Bronze Discovery Award from the Art of California magazine. In 1994 her work was one of twelve paintings selected for the Northwest Artists and Poets calendar. The Arts in Embassies Program selected her work for the American Ambassador to Singapore in 1994. Barry Spitz and The Marin Open Space chose one of her paintings for the cover of their book Open Spaces: A Guide to the Marin County Open Space District published in the Fall, 1999. Southwest Art magazine featured her work in the October 1999 issue titled ”Preserving Beauty”. She was commissioned by Paramount Studios in 2000 to paint a 4’ x 5’ painting for the movie “Vanilla Sky” starring Tom Cruise. In 2004 Pat was the recipient of the prestigious Jane Gallagher Award. The Nevada Museum of Art recently acquired on of Pat’s paintings for their permanent collection.
Her work has been exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art in the ”All California Exhibition”, Boise State University “Contemporary Artists of the Northwest”, and the University of Oregon “U.S. Landscape Exhibition”. Patricia Wallis is one of the founders of the BayWood Artists, a group of plein air painters dedicated to increasing public support for rural and open space protection, particularly environmentally sensitive or endangered lands.
